Happy New Year – Happy New Year Resolution!

We made it to 2018!  Happy New Year! If you feel like me, 2017 was exhausting.  As a people, we had to adjust to changes in our government, mass shootings, legislation, natural disasters, inappropriate sexual activity, terror attacks, senseless killings, etc.  Add to that, events in our personal life; illnesses, deaths, financial crises, tragedies that seems to hit one after another and another and another.  We never even had a chance to catch our breath because it seemed as if we were under assault.  I don’t know about you, but I’m worn out.  Down for the count.

Now that all the parties and holiday events are in the past, it’s time to look towards our future.  I get excited about New Years because I take at it as an opportunity to begin again. (I also use my birthday for the same thing).  I begin the day after Christmas and make an assessment of who I am and what I have done in the previous year. Then I do the math and ask myself; what do I need to subtract and add to make this my BEST YEAR yet! I look at how I can move into a new year and not drag the weight of 2017.  One way that our world seems to try to shake off the old, is to make New Year Resolutions.

I know I do. I actually make a laundry list (so to speak).  I clean out my address book and look through my calendar.  I want to see who and what wasted my time and did not add to elevating me to my best.  Toxic people and situations HAVE TO GO!  I look at my goals.  What do I want for myself this coming year.  How can I be the BEST ME?  I assess my new goals. Then, I look to see what I can add to my life to make sure that those goals can be met.  One thing I have learned is that this is the appropriate time to be selfish and spend the time working on yourself.  A better you will make a better difference.  It’s sort of like Michael Jackson’s song – Man in the Mirror.

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror.  I’m asking him to change his ways.  No message could have been any clearer

If you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself and then make a change.”

When making New Year Resolutions, don’t shoot for the moon.  That is what frustrates so many people and deters us from making resolutions.  If you’re like me, I can barely get through one week without falling flat on my face. But if I am realistic, I achieve above and beyond. Even if you have a setback, don’t give up.  Start all over again.  Don’t wait for another January.  When making the resolution, make it one that you will accomplish during the entire year. Give yourself a reasonable timetable. Take your time to get it right.  It’s been said that it takes 21 days of consistency to make something a habit.

Forming New Habits

So what kind of resolutions can you make that are actually reasonable to attain?  Here is an article about 50 resolutions that people make and how to achieve them.

Resolution Ideas

However, here are a few I would like for you to consider.

Resolve to be a beacon of light.

Resolve to be a better Glamma.

Resolve to be good to YOURSELF.

Resolve to be a better friend.

Resolve to learn something new.

Resolve to make a new friend.

Resolve to try to understand someone different from you.

Resolve to not let the outside world jade your perspective.

Whatever you choose to do or resolution you make, make sure it will make you and the world better.  Make sure it’s something that if you saw that trait in someone else – you would admire it.  When you look at yourself in the mirror, feel proud and accomplished.  Show the world, your family, your grandchildren – set an example for them.  Let them know, you can always be a better person.

Happy New Year – Happy New Year Resolution!

Spiritually Yours,
