I came across a post that I’d like to share with our Facebook Glamma Grandma Group on Facebook. It’s an awesome post that gives ideas on how to be the best grandma. Well, you might ask, “Why do we need that?”
Well, on Facebook, our First Glamma Grandma Group is a support group for young grandmothers. Age ranges from the late ’30s to 90+. The group defines ‘how we feel as grandmothers and shows our love for our families and grandchildren.”
Young grandmothers of today dress savvy, are educated, and definitely are more modern than the grandmother image of the past.
The real deal is grandma has experience. Inevitably, grandmothers can show each other how to be the best grandmother we can be. We have raised our own children who are now mothers and fathers of their own children. Here are a few tips.
I found a pretty good article called the 10 Top Tips for A New Grandma – Be the Best Grandparent! The article gives many examples of how to be there for the parents. It reminds us of boundaries. Mom’s job is mom’s job! 🙂 Grandma, on the other hand, offers advice when asked, and provides suggestions designed not to interfere with the mom being the mom. Finally, the article assists in guiding, teaching, loving, and cuddling mom, dad, and the new grandchild! 🙂
1. Best Grandmas Use These Tips
Here are some of my own suggestions as a Grandmother that has taught to me by my mother.
a) My mom (Grandma) helped me become comfortable bathing my first baby for the first time. Of course, hospital staff will show new parents how to bathe the new baby. But it can be a little scary the first time a new mom bathes your grandchild for the first time at home. Grandma standing by their side will make them feel more secure until they get the hang of it.
b) Grandma can help on busy days and assist when the new mother needs to get a good nights’ sleep or take a nap during the day. Glamma gives mom a much-needed break.
c) Glamma watching the baby starts building a bond of love between grandma and baby. When that grandbaby looks into your eyes …boy oh boy do our hearts melt! <3
d) Grandma can provide insight on how to manage your day with a new baby. Grandma can help a new mom and dad adjust to managing two or more children at a time.
This article really is meant to say grandmothers are here for parent support and guidance.
2. What About Grand Dad?
Grandpa can encourage and teach new fathers how to help the mother.
Grand dads make great babysitters and can assist, love, and cuddle just like grandma’s do! 🙂
Grandfathers provide support and advice to new fathers (and new mothers).

Grandpa will offer advice when asked, and provide suggestions in a way designed to assist and not interfere with the new dad being a new dad.
